Any serious marketplace seller understands the importance of not only keeping a positive feedback rating, but also having a ton of feedback. Your ability to appear reputable rests entirely on this little score unless you are a nationally known brand. If you started out on Ebay and then migrated over to Amazon like I did, then you’ll also notice that customer’s on Amazon are much less likely to leave feedback for you, so what can you do?
- Ensure that every customer is satisfied and perhaps even overjoyed by your service. It usually takes more than just delivering what you promised to prompt someone to take a few seconds to give you feedback, but that should always be your primary goal. And sticking to it will help you grow over time.
- Send some cheaper high velocity products to FBA. I do this without even expecting to profit but merely to break even on these items. The purpose is to get tons of feedback on the products since we sell so many and since FBA’s service is flawless customers are constantly raving about it through positive feedback.
- Sign up over at Feedback Five. They provide an incredibly useful and affordable tool that you can set up to email all of your customers requesting feedback. When I first saw their product I was skeptical that simply sending an email would help that dramatically, since I typically delete those myself. We actually found that the increase in feedback was astounding. This tool easily pays for itself and is simple to set up. I set mine up over a year ago and have basically forgotten about it since. All the while my feedback keeps growing thanks to taking that hour a year ago to set this up. I should also mention that I don’t have any affiliation with this company other than being a customer.
- Comb through negative feedback, which you will inevitably receive on occasion unless you are selling a perfect product with a perfect delivery service, and see if any of them go against Amazon’s guidelines. Usually about half the negative feedback I receive can be removed by Amazon by request due to some sort of violation. To see what you can have removed check this article out.
- Contact all those who left negative feedback that Amazon won’t remove. Try to make it right. I’m not above bribes in these cases, but sometimes even that won’t do it, so when you’ve tried everything else, just reply in the feedback with an explanation of what went wrong and an apology. Never accuse the customer of being unreasonable, you won’t come off as particularly helpful.
