Somehow this is my 100th blog post which is worthy of celebration in my book! In honor of this milestone, I thought it might be fun to just post briefly about the blog itself and provide some context and anecdotes. How It Started This blog originally started under the domain of MarketplacePartner.com in 2012. This is a company I co-founded and was a software tool for online retailers to list their items on marketplaces. Think of it as a very lightweight, FTP driven, Channel Advisor. So the original orientation of this blog was very marketplace heavy since that's what our bread and butter was. We then "pivoted" the business to be for suppliers and had marginally better success under SupplierPartner.com. Ultimately though we couldn't … [Read more...] about My 100th Blog Post!
Back when I lived in Raleigh, NC I was able to live close enough to my office to justify selling my car and commuting by bike. I always remember that time fondly, especially after leaving Raleigh to deal with the New York commute that was at least an hour each way daily. When we moved to Dallas I was a little bummed since this city has a reputation for being nothing but 8 lane highways, so I didn't consider an alternative to commuting by car until I came across this crazy article about a lawyer commuting by bike in Houston. This prompted me to do a quick google maps search for cycling routes to work, and low and behold there are bike paths the whole way from my house to my office. After a couple of weeks of trying it out and researching how … [Read more...] about Commuting By Bike? In Dallas??
After a year and a half long epic adventure in New York City and the greater northeast It's time to to try something new. I'm excited to announce that I accepted a new position as Director of eCommerce Operations at a 3 year old eCommerce startup called JMBullion.com! I'm super excited about joining this young company. These guys are killing it on a level I've never seen before. They are BIG relative to anywhere I've worked before, and their growth is just nuts so far. I'm so honored that they'd have me as part of the team and can't wait to dig in. Another benefit is that this company is located in Dallas, Texas where literally my entire family lives except for me at this point. Having a kid of my own has changed priorities from NYC … [Read more...] about On The Road Again
Having just concluded a 4 day break from work, where I actually shut down my email and focused on my family, I went back to work with a new perspective today. With that new perspective I was able to accomplish a weeks worth of things that affect long term goals. It was pretty unbelievable to me, things I was fighting with for weeks were so clear all of the sudden. I wish I could always operate like that. I've of course read all the articles about how vacations are good for you and make you more productive, but as long as my vacation days have a cap and my spread out family and friends don't move closer I won't be enjoying too many zen vacations on the beach. So how can someone without the luxury of being able to completely tune out … [Read more...] about Why You Need Good Bourbon
If you visit a gym regularly, once November hits the jokes about the impending swarm of new years "resolutioners" begins. For about 2 months the gym will be a crowded nightmare until the majority of the "resolutioners" lose motivation and return to their regular habits. Because of things like this the whole New Years resolution concept has a bad rep of being a bit of a joke. Of course goals can be set any time and behaviors improved for reasons other than an arbitrary date. With those excuses in hand I did not set any goals for new years for many years. Finally though maybe 4 years ago I learned about the real power of goal setting and new years just seemed like a good time to review and re-calibrate. Since then I've been on the new years … [Read more...] about Setting New Years Goals
I'm back! Before I say anything else, I just want to explain to email subscribers that you are receiving this email because of your subscription to the MarketplacePartner.com blog. I've moved the blog to a new domain. It's still the same author and the same topic, just a new domain. So now for the updates and excuses. It's been over 4 months since my last post and a ton has happened in my personal life in those 4 months. 1. My wife gave birth to our first child. I'm happy to introduce Louis Richard Fougerousse. We've been sleep deprived for months but ecstatic about the new addition. This is an E-commerce blog, so that's all I'll say about that, but there are more pictures over at my wife's blog. 2. We've temporarily shut … [Read more...] about Updates & Excuses
My name is Tom Fougerousse and I’m co-founder of Marketplace Partner. I’ve been working in e-commerce for 9 years. I started my career as an Ebay Powerseller where I sold kegerators, and have since been involved in several online store launches. Among other things, I now manage over 25,000 SKUs on multiple marketplaces for www.rosenberryrooms.com. In the last 9 years I’ve made tons of mistakes and learned just as much, and those lessons and thoughts are what I hope to share with you. I’m passionate about e-commerce, small business, and entrepreneurship, so those are the topics I’ll be covering. I’m going to break this blog into the following categories, so if you visit regularly this is what you can expect: Selling on … [Read more...] about Welcome To Our Blog!
